“(re)connect” (2023) is a photographic project that positions the practice of walking as humankind’s most basic dialogue with the Earth.  By utilising long-exposure pinhole photography, foraging practices and screen-printing technologies, “(re)connect” pursues a collaboration with nature whilst negating concern for the aesthetics of technically rendered photographs and shedding light on rawer, unconstructed images. With exposure times ranging between 60-300 seconds long, these “slow” photographs capture longer moments of time where contemplation and connection takes place within the shadows of Bouddi National Park. These images are then screen-printed with charcoal onto paper handmade from both foraged plant matter and recycled artworks. Through these methodologies which embody the pace of the natural world, “(re)connect” seeks to promote a more mindful presence where observation and grounding is found and fostered.

“(re)connect” featured as part of the “CAST” exhibition, held across three consecutive weekends in the Blue Mountains in June/July 2023, curated by Tia Madden:

“The shadow is recognised throughout history for its functional and symbolical versatility. Both in its literal and conceptual form, it invites contemplation through its invariable behaviour: it is a loose copy, imitating, mimicking, and mutating; it is a place of hiding, sanctuary and shade; it is a tool, an illuminator, a language; it tempts illusion; and it challenges perception.”
